lois knows how to party

this is a completely spontaneous picture of lois dancing at courtney and danny's wedding. i have to say it's one of the best candid pictures ever! i love when the keenans cut loose. you can kind of see jesse behind her getting down too.

that's defacing my face!

i watch crappy tv. that's what i like even though the husband throws up every time i turn on mtv, vh1 or the e channel. a new show started on mtv called from Gs to Gents and it is good! no lie. my favorite is t-jones because he's so cute and smiley. but as for who is going to win (or needs to win) is a toss up between shotta and creepa. play on playas!!!

love you like the 90s

i've been meaning to make a 90s mix tape for some time now. since i have about 7 million things to do at work, i decided that today would be the best day to make it. it took me the better part of the day and now, with an hour and a half to get my real work done, it's finished. and has evolved into a 2-disc set! i am so excited to listen to them all weekend. let me know if you want me to make you a copy of either one. happy friday!

pet peeve

ok, so one of my biggest pet peeves (and i have so many) is when people leave the dish sponge in the sink. i went into the kitchen at work today and was absolutely appalled to see the sponge, not only in the sink but soaking in a dirty bowl. this really takes the cake.

plant life

thanks to kate and natalie i have a wonderful flowering garden in the back yard. today i brought some of the outside inside. also jenna made this "silver" vase by using metallic spray paint on a glass vase. oh that jenna. so crafty.

the furminator

i've been hearing rumors about the furminator. people swear by it. so jenna and i decided to check it out for ourselves. i dropped $34.99 on the sucker and had a good laugh about the packaging. there was no way this picture was real.
i got it home, ripped open the package and started brushing. the rumors were true. this thing is amazing. and sebastian loved it! i couldn't stop brushing. i only got through one side and this is the amount of hair that came off
so ridiculous. i'm afraid i'm going to brush him bald because i'm obsessed with it! also, an interesting side note. i now own 2 items ending in -inator; the furminator and the lapinator. hmm this could be the start of a collection...

roots

guess it's time to throw these sweet potatoes out...

the sun is shining

it's been raining a lot here in philly. during yoga, there was a torrential downpour. when class was over and i was walking to my car, this was my view. i stopped for a moment to enjoy the peacefulness i had from yoga and to take in the beautiful sky.

check it out

it seems that it was a very productive holiday weekend. greasywaitress vintage put some new awesome items up for sale on her ebay store. ah-mazing stuff. and smalltownvintage put a bunch of her items on etsy. lots of 90210-inspired stuff. the REAL 90210.

just one of those things

this will only be funny to kelly and me. but man, is it funny!

cancer is an a-hole

my friend andrea lost her year-long battle with inflammatory breast cancer this morning. on one hand i am so so sad yet on the other hand i am happy that she is finally at peace and is no longer suffering. it's a weird feeling. andrea's spirit lives on in her six amazing children and wonderful husband, kelly. for those of you who don't know her, you can read about her life, her family and her battle with cancer here. please pray for the Collins-Smith family. they need it.

more photobooth pics

sarah gave me permission to post her pictures. enjoy...

queen of the handball court

i befriended 2 little kids from the neighborhood this morning, nate and orlando. they always play handball next to my house. and, as they confessed to me, also break bottles in the handball court. why is this fun for little kids to do??? i was out in front of my house pulling weeds out of the sidewalk and then started focusing my energy on the handball court. surprisingly, the boys were super eager to help me. we were pulling weeds, cleaning up glass and getting to know each other. and orlando kept showing me how he could ride his bike with no hands. we came back to my house to get a broom and dustpan and that is when they discovered my handball stash. you would think those balls were worth a million dollars or something. they went nuts. i gave them each a ball to thank them for helping me. they are really so cute.

i am going to have to figure out some rules about wanting to come over because they have knocked on my door 4 times already since our morning cleanup! zach joked that soon i would be taking these kids on field trips across the country, like his mom does with kids from the reservation in SD (check out prairie horizions), which honestly wouldn't be such a bad thing.

what totally made my morning was when nate was sweeping up the broken glass he said to orlando "ok, so no more breaking glass anymore..." we'll see if this really sticks. but i hope that by showing some interest in the park and cleaning it, the kids will take on some kind of ownership and not trash the place. i can dream, can't i?

no pushing

i've been tagging along to the pool with lois, who is currently training for a triathlon. it's only 2 blocks away from my house and it is relatively clean. although lois did point out later that there was a big chunk of weave at the bottom of the pool one time and now i try to be careful where i step. maybe one of these times, i'll learn how to swim. but in the meantime it's a nice refresher.

lord love a duck

today, my friend casey used the term "Lord love a duck" in an email. as in "Lord love a duck, that person is crazy." i'm not exactly sure what it means but it made me laugh out loud and i'd like to try to work it into my vocab on a regular basis. i learn so many interesting words and phrases when talking with casey. she's pretty neat.

new couch! addendum

i forgot to add that sebastian is trying to ruin this couch too. i've tried different options to get him to stop scratching but nothing has worked so far. i think i'm going to try those soft paws. has anyone used them? any advice?

new couch!

i have had my heart set on this couch from anthropologie for about 3 years now. but it was not very practical and extremely expensive. plus it technically wouldn't fit through my doorway. never mind the fact that sebastian destroyed my former couch by scratching the crap out of it. so i just admire it every time i'm at the store, sitting on it and pretending that i'm at home. recently anthro had a silent auction here at work and there were 4 of my dream couches available for bidding. i decided to thow caution to the wind and bid on 2 of them, thinking i didn't have a chance. but lo and behold i won BOTH of the couches. i was so excited that i actually won something for the first time in my life that i pushed away that little annoying voice inside that was saying "how are you going to get it home? and remember...your doorway is too small? what about sebastian??" but who cares, i'll figure all of that out later. i just care about the fact that i won! i convinced a fellow co worker to help me get it home in his pick up truck and we got it to my house just fine.

but of course, it wouldn't fit in my door. or through a window. we decided that the legs would have to be sawed off. unfortunately this wasn't a run of the mill ikea couch where the legs would unscrew. the problem was we didn't have any tools and we were on o
ur lunch break so we had to get back to work. we decided to put it on it's side and tie it to my front steps railing with a giant orange extension cord and go back to work. later i called jeremy, explained the situation, and pleaded for help. he came over with his tools and, after much regret, sawed the legs off. success! we got it in the house. we sat on the busted couch with no legs for over a week.

finally on sunday, zach and i made our way to home depot to get brackets to attach the legs back on. we got home and attached all the corner brackets only to find that it was still a little wobbly. so yet another trip back to home depot to get more brackets. after a lot of sweating and cursing we got it figured out and i am now a proud owner of a couch from anthropologie. just don't look to closely at the legs. and beware when yo
u come over...no belly flops or horsing around on the new couch. who knows if our bracket system really works!!
